“Description” in Greek. An ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or, more commonly, a work of art. Through the imaginative act of narrating and reflecting on the “action” of a painting or sculpture, the poet may amplify and expand its meaning. SOURCE: Poetry Foundation
Mother Tree
In an otherworld of reaching roots,
notched and knobbed,
intertwining with hyphae,
threadlike and ghostly,
deep underground, deep underfoot,
there is an exchange
of carbon and knowledge and
a certain root-skirting for space,
legacy of what it will take,
what it will take,
what it will take
to endure.
